Until the formation of Terre d’Ange The Skaldi, Jutlanders, Gotlanders, and Flatlanders were all part of the same nation. They were one of the oldest nations claiming much like Alba to be some of the oldest children of the Earth herself. About a thousand years ago they broke ties with Skaldia. Skaldia wanting more of what their other neighbors had than to be content with what the gods gave them. Flatland followed afterward but not as noisy. They were content to be themselves with the sea cutting them off from Gotland and deep woods and mountains from Skaldia. Jutland only broke away in the last five hundred years but Gotland still tries to take control from time to time. Terre d’Ange has stepped in to help the small peninsula island in the more recent years. All four nations still share in common some parts of their language, some of the same gods, and cultural practices.
In modern times Gotland in general has been a very to themselves sort ot nation. They have sent very few people out into the world beyond Jutland and Flatland in anyone’s living memory. Granted some people from Alba and Terre d’Ange have traveled there but more for personal trade than to build a relation between the nations. Most of this trade is in wood, fish, reindeer, and furs from Gotland. They in return get things like swords, jewels, ships, and other metals. These once more are carried out between people privately with neither nation reaching out for political gain letting their people do as they please.
